Bankruptcy court approves Talk America refunds

Article Abstract:

Talk America Inc, a Portland, ME-based direct television firm, secured permission from Judge James A Goodman to use company assets to pay customers owed $2.4 million, according to a report that appeared in The Portland Press Herald. The company, with listed assets of $9 million and devts of $11.2 million, has 16,000 creditors, 14,000 of which are eligible for refunds. Talk America sought bankruptcy protection after it defaulted on an undisclosed amount of money lent by Colorado-based Creative Paradox, a licensing agent for Protein Power, one of Talk America's biggest sellers.

New provider enters the Rio Grande

Article Abstract:

Sharyland Utilities LP will service the Rio Grande Valley after becoming the first new utility in 20 years to obtain approval from the Texas Public Utilities Commission (PUC). The firm will pay current providers Central Power and Light Co and Magic Valley Electric Cooperative for distribution facilities and generation costs for customers who shift to their service. Access to all transmission and distribution system is also assured to each electric power provider.

iNexTV.com readies streamed channels

Article Abstract:

iNexTV.com Inc of New York has announced that it will launch new Web sites that feature streaming media content in the 4th qtr 1999. With the technology, advertisers would be able to place commercial inserts in the streams that can be targeted to highly focused markets. Scheduled for launch in 1999 are the EXBTV channel which covers the executive branch of the government, the alternative entertainment channel AENTV and the iStyle Network of channels.
