Basingstoke civic offices

Article Abstract:

The extension of the civic offices at Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK designed by architect Casson Conder was completed in Mar 1992 at a cost of 1,131 pounds sterling per metre squared. The extension is sited near a conservation area in between 2 listed buildings and a war memorial park. It provides 20,000 metres squared of office space. The building uses low-maintenance external materials and low energy features, such as fabric insulation. Energy conservation cost an extra 34,250 pounds sterling. It is estimated that 9,350 pounds sterling a year can be saved on energy costs.

Th UK government Social Exclusion Unit's Policy Action Team 10 was established to consider the role of sports and art in fighting social exclusion. The findings of the team suggest that there is not enough communication between the different sectors working on neighbourhood renewal projects and that more systematic and long term evaluation procedures are required.

Article Abstract:

Beijing, China has been experiencing changes in administration. About 15 ministries and commissions are being dissolved so the government can become more attuned to a market economy. Among these ministries are coal, power, electronic industry, internal trade, labor, and forestry. Some of them are being downgraded under the State Economic and Trade Commission.
