Bay of Hope

Article Abstract:

The Cardiff Bay Development Corporation established in 1987 intends to build a barrage stetching 1.1 kilometres across Cardiff Bay to form a freshwater lake. The scheme designed by civil engineer Sir Alexander Gibb and Partners will cost 150 million pounds sterling. The aim is to make Cardiff an international maritime city. It is hoped that developers will build new houses, offices and leisure facilities. Currently the bay is unaesthetic covered with mud flats for 12 hours. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds opposes the scheme, claiming that 5,000 birds wil be at risk.

Norway exploits its greatest resource

Article Abstract:

Norway aims to promote its natural resources through the use of its timber in the construction of Oslo's international airport and hopes to become widely known for its energy conservation policy and quality design work throughout the world. The country hopes to market its other natural resources, stone and oil-based manufactured goods, to Europe despite the fact that the Norwegian Krona is relatively expensive compared with other country currencies.

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom developer Hampstead Securities has created an innovative modular construction technique for the inexpensive hotel market. The novel Zeds design is built with a monocoque stressed metal skin to make the building reusable. Zeds rooms are designed efficiently and measure 9.3 by 2.6 meters. A description of the design and technology is provided.
