Blue Bloor

Article Abstract:

The Prince of Wales has had a significant influence on the development of 100 three- and four-bed houses by JS Bloor Homes at Tadley Acres on the edge of Shepton Mallet, England. This is because the Duchy of Cornwall had title to 1.2 ha of the 17 ha greenfield site. Bloor has taken a leading role in developing a village community along the lines of the Prince of Wales's vision of 'architecture of the heart.' The company has changed standard house types and developed new ones in order to align itself with the masterplan set down by architect Robert Adam.

2000 Homes back on track

Article Abstract:

UK housing developers plan to carry on with their home design and technology project, Homes 2000, despite losing a bid for 30 million pounds sterling funding from the Millenium Commission. Professional bodies including the National House Building Council and the Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA) propose to build around 2000 modern, inexpensive and efficient homes to be used as templates for future housing developments. They plan to raise funds at a spring 1997 conference at the RIBA Architecture Centre in London.

Spot the difference: private housebuilders wondering where to place their crosses in the next general election will get little lead from politicians

Article Abstract:

Housebuilding is a politically sensitive area of consruction with constituency pressures on MPs over planning applications for new housing. Private housebuilders have traditionally been strong supporters of the Conservative Party, and the House Builders Federation has been wary of Labour in the past. However, planning continues to be the key to any private housebuilding drive.
