Boat, engine shipments continue to run strong

Article Abstract:

Boat sales rose by 5% during the first four months of 2000, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Assn (NMMA). The NMMA also reported that the industry control group's year-to-date wholesale dollars went up by 14% while the average unit price increased by 8%. Jet-drives registered the greatest increase in sales at 32%, from 2,618 units in 1999, to 3,442 in 2000. There was also a corresponding increase in the number of engines sold from 113,670 units up to Apr 2000, as against 107,987 for the same period in 1999.

Gunmar, Wal-Mart team for a big spring boat sale

Irwin Jacobs, of Genmar Holdings Inc., has described the marketing agreement between his company and Wal-Mart as "the most incredible retail promotion this industry has ever seen." During the month of May, the two will jointly market consumer boats made by Genmar.
