British DM expenditures top $12 billion

Article Abstract:

The British Direct Marketing Association (DMA) reported that direct marketing expenditures in the country reached 7.2 billion pounds sterling ($12.2 billion) in 1997 and expects the trend to continue through 1998. Since 1994, DM expenditures in the UK have been growing at about a billion pounds sterling annually. The association noted that expenditures in 1997 grew by 15% despite stricter definitions of direct response advertising in TV, radio and press. The report also noted that telemarketing passed ahead of direct mail to become 1997's biggest direct marketing medium.
