US-UK joint venture to explore utility deregulation

Article Abstract:

Glasgow, Scotland-based Scottish Power PLC and San Diego, CA-based Science Applications International Corp (SAIC) has formed a joint venture, called CALANAIS, that will focus on new business opportunities in a globally deregulated utility industry. The joint venture is belived to be very viable since both companies are familiar with a deregulated environment. Scottish Power supplied electricity in the UK in the wake of utility deregulation in 1998, while SAIC had been preparing clients for deregulation in the US.

UK joint venture will help US catalogers use Web to enter Europe

Article Abstract:

Sterling Marketing of London, UK, has announced a joint venture with Internet company, port80, to form Direkk. The new company will help American direct marketers to establish their sales channels in Europe. Direkk will integrate Sterling's expertise in retail, traditional catalog and fulfillment with the experience of port80 in the Internet business. The company is also negotiating with two major US companies for possible alliance.

Abacus to offer sophisticated database analysis

Article Abstract:

Abacus Direct formed a joint venture with Dutch publisher to offer database analysis for European mail order houses. The new service would involve analysis of mail-order behavior of each household from the data provided by companies that do their business with European households. Abacus will develop statistical model of each individual mailer based on the data. Abacus will expand its operations in Germany and France in late 1999.
