Brunswick sees lower earnings despite sales increase

Article Abstract:

Brunswick Corp of Lake Forest, IL, has increased sales for the fiscal year ending Dec 31, 1999, having posted net sales of $4.3 billion for the year as compared to the $3.9 billion reported in 1998. The sales increase is attributed to strong sales of boats, marine engines and fitnes equipment. Despite sales gain for the year, Brunswick's net earnings still dropped to $37.9 million from $186.3 million in 1998. The drop in revenues is caused by charges totalling $185. million allocated for business and litigation purposes.
