California AG sues R.J. Reynolds for mailing cigarettes

Article Abstract:

R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co of Winston-Salem, NC, is the subject of a lawsuit filed by California Attorney General Bill Lockyer in May 2000. Lockyer has accused the cigarette maker of mailing about 900,000 packs of cigarettes to 115,000 homes in California. The cigarettes, which R.J. Reynolds are sending without charges for alleged testing and evaluation, is apparently in violation of the national tobacco settlement with the US government.

Credit card firms stop net cigarette sales

Credit card companies of the United States signed a national agreement with Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that states that the companies will stop handling internet sales of cigarettes.
