Cendant creates DM division, taps Monaco

Article Abstract:

Cendant Corp created a new direct marketing division by merging its membership club operations with its insurance/wholesale businesses. Cendant Vice-Chmn Michael P Monaco has been chosen as chairman/CEO of the new division. Reporting directly to him would be Kenneth L Keith, CEO of Madison FISI and Long Term Preferred Care, and Mark Maybrey, managing director of Cendant International Membership Services. The businesses to be integrated into the direct marketing division are part of CUC International.

TV guide launches direct arm

Article Abstract:

TV Guide Inc. formed a new division, TV Direct Guide, that will take charge of the company's Internet direct marketing. TV Guide has a 12-million subscriber database for its TV Guide magazine. John Lappegaard has been appointed as general manager and executive vice president of TV Direct Guide. The division will use the magazine's database to produce a custom-tailored merchandise offering taking into consideration demographics, lifestyle and buying preferences. Lappegaard said that his division will use all direct marketing media in addition to the company-owned media channels.

Compaq to spin off Alta Vista division

Article Abstract:

Compaq Computer Corp of Houston, TX, has announced the planned spin off of its Alta Vista subsidiary in an initial public offering valued at more than $12 billion. The spinoff would enable Alta Vista to forge alliances with other Internet service providers and unlock the company's inherent value. Compaqwill retain a stake in Alta Vista and maintain its three-pronged strategy of boosting the value of Alta Vista, supplying computers for Internet companies and selling PCs directly via its website.
