DSC is ready to go, but the Coast Guard isn't

Article Abstract:

People in the boating industry are disappointed that marine communications technology called the digital selective calling (DSC) still cannot be used despite its availability in electronics stores. The DSC is one component of the important and delayed refurbishment of the Coast Guard's outdated communications systems. DSC cannot be implemented because the overhaul of the Coast Guard's communications system will not be completed until 2005- 2006.
