Coping abilities and prisoners' perception of suicidal risk management

Article Abstract:

Prisoners have more difficulty coping with imprisonment the longer they have been incarcerated and feel the main contributors to such difficulty are suicidal behavior before imprisonment, fewer friendships in prison, previous psychiatric treatment while incarcerated, and history of alcoholism. The main disadvantages of being on suicide watch were for prisoners the sensory deprivation, the degrading nature and the social isolation of the regime as well as the negative emotional effects. There are benefits such as the time for reflection and the prevention of self-injury.

Damage limitation

Article Abstract:

Building users should be provided with guides to the building when they move in. This would reduce the number of faults and provide guidance when repairs are being assessed. The user's guide should consist of a set of 'as built' drawings, a manual and a complete set of keys. The manual should be well indexed and comprehensive, including the operation of windows, doors and services. The keys should be clearly labelled.
