Domework: how the biggest dome in the world will be built

Article Abstract:

The Greenwich peninsula, London, England is the location of the 80,000 square metres dome structure being built to celebrate the new millennium in the year 2000. The structure will consist of 12, 90 metre steel masts which will support some 70 km of steel cable holding the glass-fibre roof. By Sept 1998 the external structures should be completed, to allow the internal fittings to be constructed in time for the building to be opened during Dec 1999. The dome will house the Millennium Experience which will include a variety of rides and shows.

Article Abstract:

The 3 million pounds sterling International Securities Market Association (ISMA) student training centre at Reading University, UK, was opened in March 1998. The centre was designed by Rick Mather Architects, which was given a brief to design facilities which would recreate a business environment for students to learn and develop in. Teaching staff are totally accessible for students via an internal open-plan design which allows everyone to see each other. The ISMA centre is also used for association functions.
