A new steel and frame office is being built for the Citizens' Advice Bureau in Chessington, England, with completion due by end-March 1995. The new office has been designed to be accessible for all, regardless of disability. Forty thousand pounds sterling was raised through fund-raising events. Much of the materials and services were donated by subcontractors. Lighting, automatic doors and heating will be provided by the Instabus European installation bus which was donated by Siemens. The system will also guide blind employees or visitors via an earpiece.

Making a splash: the developer who has made his mark on the North-west by turning derelict warehouses into trendy flats

Article Abstract:

Tom Bloxham is the founder and director of Urban Splash, the north-west property company. He buys redundant buildings between Manchester and Liverpool and transforms them into mixed-use developments. He believes that old warehouses are a waste of resources, as often upper floors lie empty when they can be transformed into living or working space. Design work is undertaken by co-director, Jonathan Falkingham, an architect. The company aims to retain features of a building with historic interest.
