Easy riser

Article Abstract:

Bison Structures' stair-in-a-box concept offers a fully modular staircase which can make a significant contribution to reducing frame erection time. The concept is set to enter the commercial arena through Bison's partnership deal with Laing, preferred bidder for the 300 million pounds sterling National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, England. Stair-in-a-box is more expensive than traditional insitu, masonry or precast concrete staircase construction, but has the potential to bring savings that more than balance out the additional cost.

Wimbledon's new 45 million pound sterling shopping centre, UK has been designed in the style of the turn of the century. Its theme is taken from the 2 listed buildings, the town hall and Edwardian fire station which do not retain their original functions. Project architect David Ridel has aimed to produce an Art Deco feel to the centre by using marble floors, wood, stone, wrought ironwork and stained glass.
