Article Abstract:

Commercial building contracts in Hong Kong decreased by 12% in the second Qtr of 1992. The real estate boom of 1990-91 has ended. The new 10 billion pounds sterling 4-year Chep Lap Kok airport building project is expected to stimulate construction. The Sino-British dispute over wider democracy in Hong Kong has made plans for the airport project uncertain. Opportunities still exist for UK building contractors. Minor construction and renovation work have increased by 14.8% to 300 million pounds sterling and mechanical and engineering by 23.5% to 118 million pounds sterling.

When the chips are down: the state-of-the-art Pentiium computer chip was last year found to be faulty, forcing its manufacturer Intel to pull out all the stops to quell an outbreak of technophobia

Article Abstract:

Construction industry users of Intel's Pentium machines have had to take the machines out of service or double check all calculations after a subtle arithmetic flaw was found in the Pentium chip. Intel had to alter its method of production and replace each chip sold. Construction industry users were concerned that calculation errors could produce dangerous design faults in buildings.
