Exporting in the single market

Article Abstract:

Opportunities are available to UK construction companies who invest in Europe. Investment is low because of the effect of the recession and the lack of confidence. The UK government provides information and specialist advice through the Overseas Trade Service and the Department of Trade and Industry's Business in Europe. Companies who participate in exhibitions can apply for a 50% reimbursement of their stand costs from the government. The Building Materials Poducers run joint seminars with the Department of Employment and publish specific country export guides.

Storm warning

Article Abstract:

A study has forecasted very windy weather conditions, in the UK, could worsen and the frequency of gales may go up by between 10-30%, by the year 2050. Some construction industry experts have suggested buildings should be designed to weather a one-in-1000-year event rather than a one-in-50-year wind speed. Others point out the bad weather conditions, in 1987, caused 1.3 million buildings to suffer structural damage but these were mainly domestic buildings.
