Underestimating the competition?

Article Abstract:

The UK market for secondhand homes is set to become much more transparent as a result of a government review of the sector due to be published in Jun 1998. Some observers feel that this could have a negative impact on housebuilders at a time when their share of mortgage-based transactions is declining. However, housebuilders themselves are more optimistic, believing that changing procedures associated with buying and selling a house will benefit both them and their clients. They are also aware that legislation will not solve all the problems associated with buying and selling a house.

Odd job saves Goldfinger

Article Abstract:

Property developer St George Developments is set to launch its ambitious plan to transform a 40,000 sq ft redundant office block in London, England, into cut-price homes. The 20 million pounds sterling conversion will turn Alexander Fleming House into a living complex with 422 apartments, two restaurants, shops and offices. It is planned to keep costs low, in line with the original architecture designed by Erno Goldfinger. Each one-bedroomed apartment will cost under 40,000 pounds sterling to buy, while a penthouse will sell for some 200,000 pounds sterling.
