Article Abstract:

Zara Lamont was given the Order of the British Empire for service on the government's construction panel and, shortly after, was widely criticized for her position on quantity surveying. Lamont maintains competitive bidding creates more confrontation than cooperation, while quantity surveyors argue bidding only fails when it is abused by contractor and clients.
