Faction suggests tax on traditional DM

Article Abstract:

An Internet sales tax to be levied on traditional direct marketers of entertainment products is being proposed by a splinter group of electronic commerce firms that are part of the federal Advisory Committee on Electronic Commerce. Under the group's plan, taxes on books, music and other entertainment products will be eliminated from both online and offline worlds. However, an agreement with business owners will make them amenable to taxes on most Internet and mail-order related business.

Wunderman becomes Impiric

Article Abstract:

Direct marketing giant Wunderman Cato Johnson (WCJ) changed its name to Impiric as a prelude to changing its market focus and overall image. CEO Jay Bingle said WCJ's new name aims to identify the company as one of the new breed of professional services firms. Bingle added that insight, imagination and impact, representing the three i's in Impiric, would now be part of the marketing mix that the company brings to its clients. However, there are those who do not agree with WCJ's name change, such as DraftWorldwide CEO Howard Draft. He believes that WCJ executives took a legend's name off the door.
