Article Abstract:

Tarmac Building and LG Engineering have successfully worked together on the construction of a 80 million pounds sterling factory, for the South Korean manufacturing company LG, in Gwent, Wales. The project faced many difficulties which were overcome, such as language and cultural differences and protecting the local community from noisy construction work. Tarmac Building Project Director Tony Coyle introduced frequent site meetings to solve organisational differences between the two companies. Tarmac had just over one year to complete the project.

Fast talking: high-speed communications between computers are simultaneously creating opportunities for and throwing new challenges at construction companies

Article Abstract:

Potential applications for modern communications include the ability to form a project team of engineers distributed around the world. Messages can be sent from computer screen to computer screen via the Internet, the network of high speed communication lines, in less time than sending a fax or letter and at less cost. However in the construction industry much business is undertaken in accordance with a letter of contracts and trust between project partners needed to share computer data is often lacking.
