FTC, FCC release marketing rules for long distance

Article Abstract:

Joint guidelines regulating the advertisement of long-distance telephone services have been issued by the FCC and the FTC. The guidelines requires long-distance carriers to substantiate, tell the truth and not to mislead consumers in their advertisements. Carriers must also disclose all costs that consumers will have to pay including monthly fees and service charges. However, an attorney for the Direct Marketing Assn said that problems would arise when the guidelines are enforced while noting that it has no practical application for marketers.
