Article Abstract:

A study of the UK construction industry found that business has been improving rapidly since 1996 but lead-times have only risen by 11.6%, despite the additional workload for many building companies. Many joinery companies plan to take on additional workers, with some in South-east England having to pay a daily rate of up to 115 pounds sterling to recruit skilled workers. Lead times are around 14 weeks for joinery businesses whilst in lift companies lead times take up to 39 weeks. Some 2400 companies were questioned about lead times in 38 types of construction industries

However, lead times have lengthened for steel frames, concrete works, electrical packages, atrium roofs and security systems.
