Geriatric assessment

Article Abstract:

Geriatric assessment, useful for all programs for frail elderly patients who need community- or home-based long-term care, is especially relevant to the Medicaid waiver programs extant in 49 states. The Medicaid waiver programs for elderly people each have the freedom to choose their own assessment instruments. Assessed areas normally include mental health, physical health, social resources, economic resources and other areas.

Provisions of the Kassebaum-Kennedy Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and other federal measures represent a threat even to home healthcare providers that meet Medicare requirements. Small-business healthcare providers should seek legislation that makes the federal government responsible for actions unjustified actions that harm beneficiaries or providers.

Article Abstract:

Graseby PLC announced in April 1996 that a unit of the company would purchase 3M's global infusion therapy business. The two companies, in part to ease any concern about the deal within the infusion therapy market, agreed to spread Graseby's takeover over approximately four years. As of late 1996, the first phase had been completed.
