Fools rush in: construction's prospects are looking healthier than they have for years

Article Abstract:

Construction orders have risen by nearly 10% since April, boosted by the sharp increase in private industrial and commercial work. The prospects for the industry look good as its approaches the millennium, although booms can be hazardous with sharp cost increases, the trimming of fees paid by clients to professional architectural and engineering firms and the need to rebuild staff numbers. There is already a shortage of experience architects and engineers. Threats of industrial action by the unions will also have an impact.

Sharing information

Article Abstract:

It is common in the UK construction industry for contractual disputes to arise because of a failure to share information between the various parties involved in complicated projects. There is particular problem with specialist contractors not being informed about vital issues such as planned design changes. It is vital to consider ways of making information accessible to everybody, and information technology can play a key role in this.
