Hearst charged with database monopoly

Article Abstract:

Hearst Trust has been charged with illegally acquiring a monopoly over a drug information database used by pharmacists and healthcare providers. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC)'s lawsuit claims that Hearst's acquisition of its main competitor, Medi-Span, violated the FTC Act by allowing Hearst to monopolize the market. The FTC asked the court to order Hearst to create a new competitor to replace Medi-Span and to forfeit its profits from price increases that followed the acquisition.
