Holding back the years

Article Abstract:

Age discrimination in Britain is known to occur in many industries although many employers are beginning to realise that older employees can offer some advantages over younger ones. Companies can make significant savings in training costs when they hire older staff because of the reduced staff turnover. Young employees do not have the experience of older people and are not as good at dealing with the public. Research shows that job performance does not differ according to age. Early retirements are not financially beneficial for the employer.

Back in working order

Article Abstract:

Employers are now beginning to refill some of the positions lost during the recession, following the improvement in the construction market. More jobs are being advertised through formal channels and there is a demand for young, qualified professionals with a QS background. There is a lack of experienced personnel and experienced QSs can command salaries of 30,000 pounds sterling a year. Larger QSs have increased their intake on training programmes.

Streets ahead: Spain's economic crisis was long and hard, but Barcelona is back

Article Abstract:

Many run down areas of Barcelona were reclaimed when the country hosted the Olympics in 1992, and since the 1980s many new landmark buildings have been built by top architects. There is a new wave of construction activity currently and projects include reclaiming the seafront, providing public open spaces in the dense Ciutat Vella and providing office space, shopping and cultural facilities to outer residential areas.
