In the sky with diamonds

Article Abstract:

The 1,000 square metre extension to the Geffrye Museum, London, England, is planned to incorporate an exhibition space, a shop, restaurants and educational areas. Branson Cotes were the architects of the new building. They used computer-aided design to decided on the structure of a diagrid roof which joins the 200 year old main building with the new extension. The extension is horseshoe shaped with a copper roof. It cost 3.2 million pounds sterling and is due to be completed by Oct 1998. The museum exhibits the history of interior design.

NHBC admits mistakes in inspecting new home

Article Abstract:

The UK National House Building Council (NHBC) does not feel that revelations about errors in recording an inspection undertaken in Pontypool, Wales, in 1997 raise any doubts about its integrity. It admits that errors were made, but emphasizes that these were purely administrative. It also emphasizes that it has now developed a new assessment system, which will begin in autumn 1999. It appears that the NHBC inspector did not actually enter the house in question at each stage, merely relying on promises from the site manager.
