Insulation makers urge FTC to tighten regs on R-value disclosures

Article Abstract:

Polystyrene insulation producers have appealed to the Federal Trade Commission to require expanded disclosure of the long-term R-value of insulation products. The Expanded Polystyrene Molders Assn urged the FTC to require insulation makers to reveal the correct, aged R-value of their products so that consumers can make better choices that would result in greater savings in heating and cooling costs.

Roofing contractors may suffer under new helper rule

Article Abstract:

The US Dept of Labor's new rule concerning the use of 'helpers' on federally financed and assisted construction contracts subject to prevailing wage standards of the Davis-Bacon Act went into effect in Jan 2001. Roofing contractors may suffer in its implementation as the new rule makes it more difficult for them to hire helpers, thereby increasing their labor costs.

OSHA catches NH roofer with safety guard down

Article Abstract:

Braintree, Mass.-based Peabody Construction Company Inc. has been cited for worker safety violations by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA said that the construction company had failed to protect its roofing workers at a Holliston work site.
