Data cleaning software offers alternative to mainframes

Article Abstract:

DataFlux's dfPower software product allows non-technical users to conduct their own data cleaning tasks. The software contains a standardization module that transforms words by looking them up in a table and a matching module that identifies similar name and address records. The first module allows users to resolve common variations in data, such as wrong spellings, abbreviations and alternate versions of company names. The second module specifies which fields to compare and the level of matching. dfPower is being retailed for $15,000 plus a 20% annual maintenance fee.
