MAN settles with three plaintiffs but New York boater refuses to quit

Article Abstract:

MAN AG of Germany has settled a class-action lawsuit filed against it by four plaintiffs in the US District Court in New Jersey. The lawsuit alleges that MAN's 6-,8-,10- and 12-cylinder marine diesels are likely to develop piston failure at 1,000 hours or less. MAN claims that its engines do not require rebuilding for 20,000. One of the four plaintiffs has vowed to file another case in another state.

Towboat wars continue in Fort Lauderdale

Article Abstract:

The issue of towboat operators interfering with one another's calls has become a national problem, according to the counsel for Sea Tow Services International. Fort Lauderdale, FL-based tug services Sea Tow and BoatUS affiliates have fiercely competed for business since at least 1996. In at least one instance, a court judge harshly reprimanded the captains of BoatUS-affiliate Offshore Marine Towing and ordered them to stop interfering with Sea Tow customers, using any Sea Tow trademarks and representing themselves as Sea Tow operators.
