Iridium teams with Telstra in Sydney call center

Article Abstract:

Iridium, a leading telecommunications company in the US, is opening a call center in Sydney, Australia, to allow its subscribers to utilize phones and pagers throughout Asia. The proposed call center will have 100 seats, accommodate customers 24-hours a day, and provide customer support in 13 languages. Consultants will handle troubleshooting, sales generation and product information inquiries. Among the services included are toll-free services, Internet and Frame Relay services. The center is expected to come on-line by September 1998. Australia-based Telstra is awarded the contract to build the call center.

HP plans 18 month Indian expansion, call center update

Article Abstract:

Hewlett Packard plans to boost operations of its Indian subsidiary over the next 18 months in Bangalore and Chennai. The move may also lead to the reorganization of its call center network. The expansion plan calls for bringing the Bangalore center from a low-end parts assembly to a specialized PC configuration center and other moves up "the technological food chain." According to the company's spokeswoman in India, Lakshmi Kanchan, the company's call center in India will play an important part in the company's development as it tries to play a "higher value-added role" in its worldwide operations.

Convergys pulls plug on WA call center

Article Abstract:

Convergys Corp has announced that it will close a technical support call center in Kirkland, WA, on Jun 16, 2001. The move is part of the company's consolidation of its call center facilities. The center to be closed is one of the two help-desk customer contact centers that Convergys purchased from Keane Inc in Feb 2001. The facility's workers will be offered the options of a transfer or a severance package.
