Kindergarten crop

Article Abstract:

The construction of day nurseries in the UK is a developing industry, with more purpose built facilities, operated by large chains, coming into the marketplace. Kindercare based in the US has expanded its business into the UK and is planning to introduce 50 new nurseries at a cost of 40 million pounds sterling by the year 2002. The building developer Duncan Ballantyne points out that finding the right location for a new nursery can be difficult. He has built three new nurseries between 1996-97. Large nursery operators, such as Jigsaw Day Nurseries, prefer to design their own buildings.

Silica valley

Article Abstract:

The Chiltern Hundreds Housing Association has built 30 houses, at a cost of 1.07 million pounds sterling, in an innovatory design to conserve both heat and energy. The houses, built in Milton Keynes, England, are joined by a glazed roof area which is sealed at both ends to give added security for the tenants. The main doors open into the area protected by the roof which also acts as a buffer against the weather. Each house has a well insulated roof and small windows to preserve energy costs which are around 375 pounds sterling annually.
