Lakes Act makes recreation a priority

Article Abstract:

The marine industry would most likely benefit from the proposed National Recreation Lakes Act of 2000 if the latter were to pass into law. The bill would require federal agencies that manage lakes created by federal dam projects to give importance to recreation in all agency decisions and to create and explore strategies for enhancing recreational experiences at such lakes. A Congress-commissioned study found that there are almost 1,800 federally managed bodies of water created by the federal government in 47 states, that collectively generate more than $44 billion in economic impact in terms of recreational activities.
