Lead times

Article Abstract:

Business in the UK lift installation industry is good, with a high level of enquires. The introduction of the Lifts Directive 1999 has increased the cost of lifts by between 1,000-1,500 pounds sterling. Prices are expected to have risen on average by 3.5% in 1999. Some firms suggest the competitive market keeps their margins very low. New technology in lifts has helped to cut the demand for workers although a shortfall in the industry remains. Lead times for curtain walling fell to 22 weeks in Nov 1999 whilst for electrical packages, lead times increased from 10 to 14 weeks.

How is it for you?

Article Abstract:

The outlook for the UK construction industry is variable, with cities including Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow enjoying strong growth, while Newcastle, Birmingham and Belfast are more pessimistic. In Glasgow and Edinburgh, the construction sector has been boosted by new office and retail development, although the recovery is still patchy. In Belfast, construction has been affected by the renewal of sectarian violence, while in Leeds the construction sector is thriving, particularly in the leisure and office sectors.
