Article Abstract:

Nine construction industry figureheads and their companies are profiled. Architect Barry Brown of Bland, Brown & Cole has recently finished the lottery funded refurbishment of the Cambridge Arts Theatre and the practice has undertaken schemes for housing associations, Cambridge colleges, churches and special needs homes. Richard Graves took over the family QS business when his father retired in 1996 and is aiming to increase the 2.9 million pounds sterling turnover of 1996. Other companies profiled include a construction firms, quantity surveyors, architects and project managment consultants.

Bovis/Atkins merger: will it work?

Article Abstract:

P&O has confirmed rumours that Bovis is holding merger negotiations with engineering group WS Atkins. There has been a largely positive response from the construction industry to the prospect of a merger between these two companies producing a company with design, construction and facilities management expertise and turnover of 2.5 billion pounds sterling a year. However, many questions remain unanswered, including the price Bovis will have to pay for WS Atkins and what the management structure of the merged operation would be.
