Long-distance phone DMer merges with Lightyear

Article Abstract:

Long-distance telemarketer VarTec Telecom has merged with Lightyear Communications, creating a new company with $1.5 billion in annual revenues, 2,100 employees in more than 23 cities and more than 6 million customers. Lightyear offers voice, data and Internet service to 300,000 businesses and residential customers across the US while VarTec promotes dial-around long-distance service. The latter also maintains five call centers to handle service and billing inquiries.
