UK heating and ventilation system specialists Colt International welcomed representatives from 18 other construction firms to hear a presentation of its management strategy. The Construction Industry Board organised the event as part of an initiative to encourage model firms to share their management expertise with others in the industry. Colt has adopted some of the lean manufacturing techniques used by Nissan UK. Subjects discussed by Colt representative included its team approach to organising and motivating its workforce and its techniques for developing relationships with suppliers.

Mud treatment

Article Abstract:

A 910,000 pound sterling investment programme has been started at a 200 year-old barn near King's Lynn, Norfolk, UK to convert it into an ecological learning centre. The Brancaster Stairth learning centre plans to teach people about environmental issues. The heating system uses up to a mile of plastic piping buried under mud flats, which increases water temperature by up to 4 degrees celsius when passed through the piping. The system generates enough heat to provide for showers, taps and underfloor heating in the learning centre.
