Construction contractor Galliford Midlands has won the Regional Contractor of the Year award in the 1998 Building Awards. This company derived almost three-quarters of its contracts in 1996 to 1997 from repeat business, indicating that it has a very high level of satisfied customers. It has gained a strong reputation for its Project Achievement through Co-operation and Teamwork partnering framework, which allows contractors and clients to establish mutual goals. It keeps strict control over its activities through partnering with only a small number of suppliers and subcontractors.

UK construction industry development firm Argent was awarded with the 1999 Building Award for best practice after showing it was committed to working within an environment which promoted green issues, customer service and work efficiency. Argent management showed a strong desire to promote best practise, bring projects in under budget and within time. Employees are encouraged to travel to work using ecologically-friendly methods, while projects with good quality public transport services are given top priority.
