Midnight mass

Article Abstract:

The UK Building Research Establishment is to investigate the problem of noise transmitted through flooring after precast concrete flooring has been found to provide limited noise prevention. Builders need to incorporate waste pipes and cabling so as to reduce noise levels in apartments and houses. Installing masonry in mass form may reduce the level of noise transmitted, which is the route house builders Chase Midland has undertaken during the construction of a new housing development in Birmingham.

The car out back is a Toyota

Article Abstract:

Many UK housing developers are now beginning to acknowledge that potential purchasers are seeking estates which offer a strong sense of community. Developers are responding by creating estates which can be policed by local residents and where the only cars in use are those belonging to the residents. More attention is being given to diversity in areas such as layout and house design, and large developments are being broken down into small neighbourhoods.

Road blocks

Article Abstract:

City of Edinburgh Council planning officials are keen to encourage a number of environmentally-friendly housing developments. Each location would be designed to cater for the reuse of building materials, rainwater and solar energy. Most residents will be encouraged to trade their car for additional accommodation. A number of suggested designs for a 1.4 hectare disused railway are put forward by building design specialists.
