Mixed doubles

Article Abstract:

The new 6 million pounds sterling Southend Leisure Centre has a bold, striking architectural form which most leisure centres lack. However, budgetary restrictions meant that the specification was reduced and the detailed design and use of materials are not of the same standard as the original design. The centre, in Southend, England, has two large halls, one for tennis and one for badminton, with ancillary accommodation between them. The halls have been built beneath two great curving monopitch roofs, giving a conspicuous and dramatic appearance.

Royal standard

Article Abstract:

Windsor Castle has recently been reopened to the public after a five-year renovation programme costing 36.5 million pounds sterling. Some of the work has focused on restoring the castle to its state before it was extensively damaged by fire, while other work has added new features. These include an octagonal lantern lobby based on a gothic chapterhouse. The restoration work has covered a total of 105 rooms, with most of the work being managed by architectural firm Donald W Insall Associates.
