Millard Group wins Lillian Vernon list

Article Abstract:

Specialty gift cataloger Lillian Vernon Corp has outsourced its list management business to The Millard Group. Lillian Vernon said the decision will increase its list revenues while Millard pres Ben Perez said the cataloger's list will be exposed to a wider range of prospective customers. Lillian Vernon's solicitation process lasted four months and its outsourcing contract with Millard will begin officially on Feb 28, 2000.

Hanover taps Wunderman for Internet lab

Article Abstract:

Online direct marketing company Hanover Direct Inc of Weehawken, NJ, has appointed Lester Wunderman as head of its newly created Internet Marketing Lab. The lab will utilize Hanover's 13 brands, including The Company Store, Domestications, International Male and Tweeds as a testing ground to develop innovative Internet marketing methods. Among the areas to be tested are e-mail marketing, copy approaches and creative approaches.

Leading catalog firms such as Lands' End, J. Jill Group and JCPenney Co have continued to perform poorly in terms of revenues and sales despite the fact that October through December is usually their most busiest and most profitable time of the year. Gomez Advisors Retail Research Dir Jill Frankle attributes the difficulties of the major catalog firms to the Internet and electronic commerce, which she believes have increased the level of competition in the catalog business.
