Article Abstract:
Fire safety engineerig is included in the new UK Building Regulations to decrease fire risk chances. Fire engineering is intended for large, complex, historic buildings or those which have unusual architectural features. Fire engineering involves anticipating fire risk and deciding on safety measures. The first British Standard on fire engineering will be published in 1993. It will work out how long it takes to evacuate a building and how long it takes people to decide to move out once the fire has started. Sprinklers, compartmentation and escape routes are the main objectives.

The UK Construction Specialist Insurance Bureau is offering members of the Confederation of Construction Specialists design indemnity insurance and product guarantee insurance, known as Post Construction Guarantee (PCG). Cost of the insurance is based on turnover and will be under 1% of the value of the contract, which enables the company to build this into its tender. The PCG commences from the completion date of the contract.
