Oracle acquires Thinking Machines

Oracle Corp of Red Shores, CA, has announced its acquisition of the assets of Thinking Machines Corp of Waltham, MA, for an undisclosed amount. Thinking Machines is a developer of advanced data mining software for analyzing huge amounts of data on customer transaction and demographics for predicting consumer behavior. The acquisition would enable Oracle to extend its data warehouse platform and business intelligence tools to cover enterprise reporting, ad hoc query, advanced analysis and Internet- based data mining.

UPS will acquire Mail Boxes Etc

The United Parcel Service of America (UPS) has entered into an agreement to acquie Mail Boxes Etc, a franchiser of independently owned shipping centers worldwide. The acquisition will enable the two companies to develop new opportunities in such areas as e-commerce, small business services and financial services. It is also expected to solidify UPS's business with Internet and catalog consumers and small office/home office owners.

UPS takes wing south of the border

Article Abstract:

United Parcel Service of America Inc (UPS) of Atlanta, GA, plans to purchase Challenge Air Cargo Inc, as part of its plan to further its expansion in Latin America. UPS sees the deal as strategic move to make the company the largest air cargo and express carrier in the significant Latin American market. The conditions of the agreement were undisclosed, but the deal could be completed before Jan 1, 2000.
