Out of workers

Article Abstract:

The UK construction industry currently only has just enough skilled workers, and could easily face skills shortages if the economy begins to revive. Even if the economy does not expand, problems could still arise from the trend towards highly trained employees being replaced by people who have been trained to lower standards. Many different solutions to this crisis have been suggested, including the abolition of the Construction Industry Training Board and giving statutory powers to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.

Small spaces revival

Article Abstract:

Effective space utilisation is a priority for developers refurbishing 1960-built office blocks. Developers often have problems fitting communication cabling and air conditioning, although slimline ventilation systems and wireless technology is proving useful. According to surveyor Knight Frank, of a total of 1.7 million sq mt of empty office space in the City of London, around 75% needs refurbishment.
