PC printing giant enters world of ITV

Article Abstract:

Hewlett-Packard Co is developing a printer that is designed especially for use with interactive television and to fit into an entertainment system and looks and functions much like a VCR. The product will be initially available for purchase directly through two different Web sites or from a set-top box. The printer, which is being developed in partnership with Englewood, CO-based AT and T's Broadband division, will be launched together with AT and T's Interactive Television service.

WorldGate expands cable reach

Article Abstract:

Interactive television provider WorldGate Communications Inc has awarded two contracts with four cable companies that could distribute its Internet-on-TV service to over 24 million homes in the next few years. The contracts were with Adelphia Communications Corp, Comcast Cable Communications Inc, Cox Communications Inc and Charter Communications Inc. The first deal calls for the cable operators to broadcast the WorldGate service to their customers while the second deal is about TVGateway, a joint venture formed by WorldGate and the cable operators.

AT&T wants subscribers to be Divas

Article Abstract:

AT and T Corp has signed an agreement with video-on-demand technology and service provider Diva to offer the interactive application to its cable providers in select markets by the end of 2000. The first to use the systems will be markets in Pittsburgh, PA, Los Angeles, CA, and Northern California, with subscribers in Atlanta, GA, to be the first to test the system. Video-on-demand through Diva lets subscribers to choose from hundreds of movies that they can start, pause, fast-forward and rewind using their remote controls.
