Article Abstract:

The existence of nickel sulphide inclusions in toughened glass can cause pane explosion. Shattering occurs most frequently in blue or green glass due to sun impact causing rapid inclusion expansion which the glass cannot tolerate. Toughened glass is popular for curtain-walling because it can take thermal stress, impact and shatters into small safe granules. Inclusions form during manufacturing and can be treated by heat-soaking. Many manufacturers fail to treate the glass because it adds an extra 10% onto the cost.

Importer acts on quality to boost Spanish slate's image

Article Abstract:

Spanish Slate Quarries (SSQ), importer of Spanish slate, has invested in a quality control system. The investment of over 500,000 pounds sterling means that SSQ now has four office employees and two slate inspectors to assure quality of slates from its 12 quarries in north-west Spain. Spanish slate is nearly 30% cheaper than its British equivalent.
