Piccadilly interchange

Article Abstract:

A new interchange has been built at Manchester's main railway station, Piccadilly for the light rapid transit vehicle, Metrolink. Commissioned by Central Manchester Development Corporation, it offers transport through the city to Altrincham and Bury. It cost 7 million pounds sterling to develop. The architect responsible was Reg Grigg of Atkins Lister Drew. Health and safety precautions have been preferred leading to poor architectural aesthetics. A further 35,000 pounds sterling will be spent on kiosks and artwork in the concourse area.

An angel at my table: the conversion of deconsecrated churches into restaurants and wine-bars hardly raises eyebrows any longer. But in Rochdale, Lancashire, a highly ornate altarpiece now serving as the backdrop to a restaurant bar has raised hackles in the Roman Catholic Church

Article Abstract:

A themed Italian trattoria in Rochdale, Lancashire, features a bar made from altarpiece and reredos fromt he school chapel of the Carmelite Notre Dame convent in Manchester, which was demolished in 1972. The use of the altarpiece has been condemned as sacrilegious by some in the Roman Catholic Church.
