Publishers Clearing House launches pch.com

Article Abstract:

Publishers Clearing House (PCH) announced that it has established pch.com, an independent limited-liability firm that could be spinned-off eventually. PCH exec vp Andy Goldberg said pch.com will leverage PCH's promotion, marketing and database expertise while providing Web users with a completely new experience. Goldberg also said that pch.com will concentrate on e-commerce and that its visitors can avail of high quality sweepstakes and game-playing experience.

L.L. Bean accepts fine in carrier recall

Article Abstract:

Freeport, ME-based L.L. Bean Inc will pay a civil penalty of $750,000 to settle charges that it violated the Consumer Product Safety Act when it failed to immediately report the Consumer Product Safety Commission that two of its backpack child carriers were defective. The commission alleged that L.L. Bean delayed in reporting that children can fall out of the carriers though the company had already known of 39 such incidents.

Department of Commerce launches trade fair initiative

Article Abstract:

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has launched a program to assist US catalog companies in penetrating the European market. The DOC plans to let US catalogers display their wares and services at the DOC pavilion during major trade shows in Europe in 20000. Catalogers who want to participate must inform the department three months in advance and should only offer products and services that are American made.
