Congress delves into DM issues as second session begins

Article Abstract:

Congress will look into issues affecting direct marketing such as spam during the second session of the 106th Congress. Among the major hearings is the House subcommittee on postal service's hearing on Mar 9, 2000, which will examine the role of the State Dept in representing the USPS at Universal Postal Union meetings. The subcommittee will also have a separate hearing on the USPS' revenue assurance program. No schedules, however, have been set for HR 22, McHugh's Postal Modernization Act.

DM issues await action on Congress

Article Abstract:

Nonprofit mailers are hoping that Congress would pass bills that would give them postal relief and exempt them from postal rate increases. The bills aim to set nonprofit periodical rates and other preferred rates at 95% of their commercial counterparts. The bills also require the revenue- per-piece for nonprofit Standard-A mail to reflect a 40% discount on the revenue-per-piece for commercial Standard-A mail. The nonprofit rates would always be a percentage of commercial rates.
